Part Total War, part The Tudors, the original Crusader Kings was (and in many ways, still is) the deepest, most authentically 'medieval' GS game ever made. In a nutshell, CK2 is a medieval grand strategy game that focuses not on mindlessly stomping on foreigners with a single monolithic knightly nation state, but on the down and dirty business of raising an aristocratic family and taking the often fractious feudal system for all it's worth.
